Ian R. Nemitz is currently a Research Electronics Engineer at NASA Glenn Research Center, having started working there in February, 2018. Prior to this, Ian was a graduate student at Case Western Reserve University working in the Liquid Crystals and Complex Fluids Group for Dr. Charles Rosenblatt. In addition to this, had the opportunity to participate in a joint research program at Université Pierre et Marie Curie in the Paris Institute of Nanosciences, working for Dr. Emmanuelle Lacaze. He graduated with degrees from both Universities in Fall 2016.
During his graduate career, his work dealt with liquid crystals, focusing on chiral induction, surface interactions, and electo-optic effects. One of his most exciting project involved the addition of chiral molecules to thin liquid crystal films, and studying their resulting structures.
When he isn’t focusing on his career at NASA, he spends time working on his farm, learning French, and dodging the demands of his very demanding (and very large) Maine Coon Cat, Tristan. Currently, he and his fiancé are going through the stressful process of planning and getting prepared for their upcoming nuptials. Any suggestions on a honeymoon?
